This is in the draft indicator thread. it sould be in training. not that is really matters. Its just kind of funny. Yeah, I noticed that a bit ago too, but I'll lose track of stuff if I start moving it around and renaming it or whatever

yesh they do have resistance units ... but it does end up being different in the aspect that you cannot really stand up and jam ... but you can get them w/ a fork mount over the front roller so i guess ... if you really wanna do intervals balls out ... der ya go. but then you lose the whole balancing thing and blah blah blah ...
ive got the ecotrack ... the folding tacx sporttrack and it has pvc rollers and im on season 2.something and they are fine. there are black marks from when i bailed or rode off one end or .... but really they arent wearing in a noticeable way.
The issue w/ the the metallic drums is (as i understand it) that it is harder to make a perfect circle by machining and milling ... and more expensive. Apparently (and this is only word of mouth and articles) when you ride a really beautifully machined set you will know the difference. But who has the money to buy and try em all? bah.
as i said. 250~ for the folding rollers. take up no space. and really ive never felt that my core was ever strengthened by any form of cycling ... you will gain a stronger chode area ... the whole having to sit thing (you can stand on them for sure ... but i bailed and now im frightened... haha).
so yeah. rollers are the cats ass. great for pre-race warmups, looking cool and hurting yourself.

ahhhh.. I always wondered about the entire bailing bit... I'm scared without having bailed before.
I suppose during the winter when you'd want to use the trainers you'll probably be doing base work anyways, eliminating the need for some serious resistance....... maybe?

resistance is good at all times ... its just the rollers benefit your pedal stroke ... making it more efficient before developing lots of power ... and perhaps a poor technique? honestly having both would be nice ... i had a trainer who would harp on building the support muscles, the ligaments ... balancing everything before piling it on. so i think of rollers sorta in the same way.
but really it all depends on your training plan ... plan of attack etc ... what do you see yourself doing ... ie. what can you stand doing and for how long? your experience, experience w/ HR or power or whatever ... then you choose your weapon of torture.
i honestly think more importantly is what you are going to watch or listen to while you do it.

hah.. I watch movies while doing it....
Though I do have a pretty square pedal stroke as I found out today when I decided to try some 1 legged pedaling. It's amazing how much harder it is with only 1.... it's one of those 1+1 = 3 kind of things...
me good at math.

Yeah, I have high intensity spinnervals and some CTS stuff, electronic music and some selected movies. (run lola run for tempo, LOTR for basemiles, keeping an eye on heart rate to stay in zones of course). Untill i get a trainer, i'll spin light gears for ILT workouts and work on balance and core strength off the bike.
I take it that core strength is more of a priority than upperbody strength, as any (however little it may be) leverage/power gained though would be lost in a transfer through a weak core, is this right?

I've had a set of tacx rollertracks for 3 years now. The pvc drums have held up fine except of the small gash my chain ring put in one of them when I bailed sideways once. I've also been thinking of getting the resistance unit. You can add a little resistance though by just lowering the pressure in your tyres. The obvious problem is that your stuck with that resistance for the entire workout.

ive had some epic bails ... worst ive done is cut myself w/ the big ring ... which is a daily occurence on the mtb anyways so whatever.
you can lower the pressure OR you can get the ever practical 56t big ring and 11t little ring. you know you are a sprinter.
