Okay, I bet everyone thought of it as soon as they read the title, and were probably like "wow I do NOT want to do that". You do. The cannon needs to be painted! We need a plan though. A sweet design, a memorable one, and some time to make it happen. This night will probably also need some fireball to keep us all nice and warm...And a sacrificial bike.
We were thinking possibly this thursday? Weather dependent, or if that doesn't work next thursday. Weather dependent as well, I want everybody out to have a great time, and realize bad weather isn't very conducive to this idea...
Post up ideas! Let's make it happen!

I have 3 random cans of paint.. not entirely sure what colours, but I think pink blue and yellow. I don't have a sacraficial bike though.. or brushes or rollers. No matter what, this will turn out better than the last time we tried.. that I'm sure of.
I think if we find a shitty MTB and let the air out of the tires we should be able to duct tape it to the cannon like its riding.. then maybe even paint the bike the same colour as the cannon?
2010 champs needs to be on there somewhere for sure, and possibly the term 'threepeat'

well I was thinking tie the bike down using the picnic tables in the vicinity, and the whole next day we should have someone on top of the cannon pretending to ride it. I volunteer but will need help when I need food, more whiskey, and pee breaks.

I think the proper way to tie the bike down would be to drill and tap some holes into the cannon and bolt the bike directly to the cannon

if we don't want to sacrifice a bike, we could make a fake one? I have some extra pipe insulation from a community project that would make good wheels.... i'm sure there's other crafty folk who could contribute something too!

simon...... lets make a stand out of 2x4 that could stand over the cannon and we could put some rollers on top and have a relay all day. Bam.

I like the relay Idea. haha I might be able to get a beater bike from the Bike Center. I know I could get a frame at least... I think the cool factor would be up there if we used someone's high end mountain bike though hahah

I think carly found us a bike. In other news, we also now have a set of official UGC training wheels so fruity will be able to race next year. Great news all around. In terms of actually sitting on the bike / rollers etc, I think thats a bit ambitious for a random in the cabbage construction adventure. Maybe something to think about for next year when injuries/lawsuits are not my problem

Picking it up on wednesday! It is a gold/ bronze colour that i think nearly matches the UGC cape! [Sadly it isn't the one with the training wheels and pink streamers. ]

heh. I've figured a bike out too. but how about a bike trainer as a stabilizer? that would do it but I guess I wouldn't be able to guard one all day and stabilizing with a bike trainer is basically all we can do, can't ride it without this getting pricey...
We'll need some trays of paint to put bike tires in and roll them all around, and I can supply some old bike chains maybe for some extra bling?

keep in mind that 'stabilizing' a bike on top of the cannon using either duct tape or a trainer are ideas which are probably... impossible.
The top of the cannon is rounded and there will be so much torque (remember that, fruity?) on the tape or anything when the bike leans, that it will just fall over like nothing's there. Don't get me wrong, I support the bike-cannon innitiative, but someone has to point this out.
maybe strap the bike to the side, so it hangs, wrapping the tape around the barrel of the cannon? tape is more useful in tension than compression, like a rope ya'll!

Bayden makes a good point. what if we do this 'new option' ... the idea is to make it appear that the bike is pulling the cannon. The cannon is still painted the same... but instead of the bike being on top of the cannon it is placed on a trainer in front of the cannon. There are then old chains attached from the seat post of the bike that is on the trainer to the cannon. And of course we could still have people riding the bike through out the day (such as fruity). We could also maybe attach some other old bike parts to the cannon or something. such as putting bike wheels where the cannons wheels are. thoughts? Attachments:

potentially... this option does mean this cannon project is now a 2 day endevour... one day to guard it and not let anyone else paint it, and the following day (after staying up all night) 'pulling' it. not a problem if fruity is cool with freezing his in the cabbage ass off two days in a row...
I do like the idea though.... hmmmmmmmm
"Place Fruity Here -->" = AMAZING!

old chains attached from the seat post of the bike that is on the trainer to the cannon. There's a loop on the barrel that would make tying ropes/chains from bike to cannon easy

In terms of actually sitting on the bike / rollers etc, I think thats a bit ambitious for a random in the cabbage construction adventure. it is also a bit ambitious for a group of people who couldn't even get the painting part right. remember the facepalm-worthy disaster of last year? hahahaha

You mean the cannon can look better than this?!I actually laugh my ass off at the shitshow that caused this disaster last time. Amazing.

That was our last attempt. Around 2am after the vicotry party last year. Someone else had painted it already a few hours earlier and I think someone might have tried after us as well. It was also pouring rain. This year, we got this under control.

Well I am consensual with like maybe 3 hours of pretending to pull the cannon away, especially if i get visitors coming and going, and maybe some music. It would be pretty funny too if there was someone riding the cannon, like a carriage.

don't listen to Bayden. he has no idea what he's talking about, the in the cabbage bastard!
stabilizer brackets a'la Stu's idea would be mega-easy to make, and we could theoretically bolt the bike to them. that seems like some pretty solid win-sauce.
however, if fruits is up for pulling the cannon all day while wearing the UGC cape...then make it happen
