There has been a lot of talk on here about doing a road race in the States. This event is separate from the collegiate road races in the U.S and will be a much easier race to attend. The guys from Queens are putting on a criterium on Sunday March 24th. More details on the length of course and times can be found here: docs.google.com/file/d/0B4VytVVvqUyXVmlRYVpyQXlRNGs/edit?usp=sharing&pli=1 UPDATED If you have never road raced before, criterums are fast and can be aggressive so if you would like to particpate the B category is for you. However, some road riding and/or racing experience is strongly advised. As Kingston is a decent drive, we would leave on the Saturday and stay over, race then come home. Jon from Queens has said that he will talk to the local motels if they will give discounts on rooms for racers. Post up if you are interested or if you have any further questions. Lets show em what UGC can do on the road! Attending:Flav 1p 1b Rookie Dan 1p 1b James 1p 1b Dar2121 1p 1b Anton 1p 1b Guy from brock 1p 1b Gill 1p 1b(own ride) Pascal 1p 1b Vehicles:Red Rocket 3p 3 b Dan Van 2p + all the bikes OR up to 7p with fewer bikes(Leaving saturday night) Dar2121 4p 3b

hey, never done any racing before, but I would potentially be interested in participating in the B category. How hard could I expect the pace to be in a race like that?

i like the idea of not going arcoss the border and is there some other document format i can't open the link.
and pascal the race is a crit so it will be a short track and more of a sprint pace/fast, and if it's like the u-cups everyone is there to have fun so it should be a good time

As James said, the pace of crits are harder and faster than a road race. I dont know what the B category will be like but if its open to beginners than it should be fairly accomidating!

Yee Karen is gunna crush it!
The iteneriary doc has been updated I will post a new link. Within it Jon posted hotels to stay at and theyre rates.
If we want to snuggle together with 4 people to a room it should be around 25-40$ per person for the night depending on which place we choose(90$ per night or 125$ per night).

So what are the numbers like? Is anyone planning on doing the "open" category later in the day??

I will probably try the open race later in the day depending on how the morning race goes (it is my first crit!).
This race is only 2 weeks away! So its time to start organizing logistical details.
1. If you are planning on attending please post up sometime next week so we can arrange enough transportation and book a hotel room.
2. What is everyone thinking for a room? I would be alright with the cheapest option(90$ for the night).
3. We will probably be leaving earlier saturday morning(8-9ish) as Jon from Queens wants to do a group ride that day. I doubt we will be back untill 8 or 9 oclock Sunday night.
If you have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask!

I'm in and with my van. I can seat up to 7, or carry a near infinite quantity of road bikes. However, I am working to 9:15 Saturday night. My plan is to depart straight from work. Barring any traffic jams or accidents, I can get there by around midnight. I don't need any 5 star accommodations, just a mattress, which I believe that $90 option includes.

I'll probably do the women's open crit, since I wouldn't be able to help out with points anyway!

Put me down as attending for now. Unless I get asked to work that weekend, I'll be there.
Also I can provide a ride. I can fit 3 bikes (preferably 2) and 4 other people.

Unless it starts in the afternoon, it looks like I might not be able to make it. I can't open the document above with the information, so if someone could enlighten me, it would be appreciated.

Mcwynne, it says the Mens A time is "to follow" but the womens A time says 1:30 so it will probably be around that time.

So Darren, your down to leave saturday morning? It would be great if we could use you vehicle. Anton who is an alumni for this club is looking for a ride and will probably come with us in the morning.
Mcwynne so you work saturday/sunday?

Hello most excellent members of the Guelph Cycling Club!
Adrian here, from the UofT mountain biking team. Those of you who raced UCup last year may remember me for my reddit jersey, 20-year-old-bicycle antics, and borrowing a Top Fuel from some excellent person whose name I cannot recall.
Anyway, some of us at the cycling club have been talking with Jon about potential options for transportation to Kingston, and he suggested we check in to see if any of you would be willing to drop by Toronto on the day of the race to pick up three, possibly four riders and their bikes.
Gas money's a given, and I can offer beverages as additional compensation. That, and the entertainment value of one, possibly two riders getting their asses whipped while riding old-school Canadian steel.
Cheers,
Adrian

Hey Adrian,
So we are all leaving on Saturday for the race and staying overnight. Rookie dan is leaving at night and we will have a car or two leaving on the saturday morning.
Could you confirm how many of you need a ride so we can verify how many vehicles we`ll need?

Alex,
There are three, possibly four riders interested in coming.
James Kim from McMaster can squeeze one, possibly two of us into his car on the way to Kingston on Saturday. I'm Still sorting that out with him.

Ok so if we take 2 cars on saturday that will be room for 6P and 6B
So thats me, Dar2121, Anton(maybe), Adrian, and a couple others.
Im getting 2 hotel rooms for saturday and I said we would have 6 people between the two of them.
That would be: Me, RD, James, Pascal, Guy from Brock, and Dar2121. Not sure what Anton is saying but we could squeeze him in.
The rate will be about $100 with tax per room. So thats about $33 a person.
