Hi everyone, I am considering buying some skate skis in case it ever snows. Does anybody know where I could buy a new or slightly used set around here?

Speed river sells ski's for sure, but as for what kind... not sure. Cross country of some type i believe.

by skate skis do u mean snow blades? good luck finding them new they were a fad that died, you would need to find a used pair most likly, for full size skis the only place i would ever go is paramount source for sports

mike, i know what you mean. Bota or mike little could probably help you out... they are on the varsity team. Im pretty sure they carry classic and skate at speed river. And my cousin got some solomon skate skiis from a source fo sports. best of luck. But they way the weather is looking... roller skiis would be a better investment:)

You can always check on MEC's gearswap too. It's not exactly guelph, but there may be a way to work shipping out. heck, even buying them from MEC may not be too bad of an idea. The stuff they have they tend to be able to sell at lower prices than small stores to to volume.

by skate skis, im pretty sure he means...well, skate skis.
possibly bits bikes and boards sells them? a sport chek also just opened up in the stone road mall, which im pretty sure carries skate skis. kitchener/waterloo is another option, they'll definitely have some.
and yeah like kevin said, MEC is always an excellent way to go. i bought a heart rate monitor from them for $30 less than it was elsewhere! delicious! even checking their website they appear to have some darn good prices on skis.
i was considering the same thing, but this winter looks so sketchy and it'd be such a mission to get out to good trails, *especially* for skating, where you need something along the lines of 6+ feet on either side of you as a safeguard, really. if you got classics you'd have a little more trail-freedom i think. or maybe hybrids...im pretty sure they exist. or maybe you can use skate skis as classics?

I am pretty sure there are skis called combi skis that can do both skate and classic. I would check out the used equipment site on MEC. And to really enjoy skate skiing you have to go on groomed trails.
You can just rent xc skis at hardwood hills or other big trail facilities. I hope to do this again this year, make a good day trip of xc skiing if we ever get snow.

Thanks for all the help. I went to Sport Chek and asked the ski guy about skate skis he replied with "what are skate skis" so maybe sport chek isn't the best place to buy skis from. Anyways, I am definitely going to check out that MEC site but I don't know much about sizing. Its fairly expensive to rent. Last year I probably spent enough money renting from hardwood hills that I could have bought the skis I kept getting.... Whoa! Theres actually some snow outside and its still snowing! Can't wait to start skiing (not to say that riding on rollers gets boring or anything).

Paramount (right by the Portly Penguin) sells skate skis. I was taking a look last semester. In terms of quality or performance, I haven't a clue though.

I'm in for a classic adventure. I've got the '70s skis, jacket, toque, AND sunglasses.

So I've been to sports chek, speed river, the MEC website and paramount and nobody has them. Speed river could order them in for me but they are a bit more expensive then I had hoped.
