I know the best way to get fast is to ride my bike and not just read books, but I feel like knowing how to train more effectively would help too.. Has anyone come across any good books or articles that might be worth reading? -Specifically in the area of HR training. I've been looking at the Joel Friel stuff on amazon -decent or is it just a trend kinda thing?
ideassssss?

Joe Friel's Cyclist Training Bible is the staple, and for good reason. It is hands down the most comprehensive book on the subject. Especially if you want to create a year plan. The fastest UGC members use this I have also read the Lance Armstrong performance program- which is fairly rudimentary. Serious Mountain Biking is decent, but I felt it was a bit too beginner oriented. If you will be training with power- Racing and Training with a Powermeter is also vital. If you like science. Check out 'High Performance Cycling' by Asker Jeukendrup. You can borrow mine, I think Josh has it right now.

However, Friel's books explain everything you need to know in order, start to finish. Asker's book is written by a different author every chapter. Regardless, I would recommend Friel's book to start, then pickup any of the other books mentioned and read them after.

I picked up some books at the beginning of the summer I can loan you. I have: Cyclists training Bible Weight training for cyclists Also, this is a good website for various intervals: www.cycleops.com/training/workouts.html . Although its power based, I'm sure you could adapt it based on HR zones.

Yeah Simon the weight training fo cyclists be a good book. I've followed the weight training program in it for a few winters and well, no need to go into further detail.
