FUN, FITNESS, FARMS, FOOD BANK Spring and early summer are great seasons for cycling, and we have a great bike ride for you. On Sunday, May 29, at 9:30 a.m. a group of cyclists will leave from Centre Wellington District High School, 905 Scotland St, Fergus on their choice of a 45 or 70 km fundraising tour of scenic Wellington/Waterloo back roads. The event will raise money for the Centre Wellington Food Bank and promote awareness of local food and agricultural products. Until May 20th cyclists can register for the Food Cycle Ride, either at Scotiabank Fergus Branch, 201 St. Andrew St. West, where the bank will match the entry fees or online at www.foodcycleride.ca. Up to May 20th adult registration is $45. Youth and students pay only $20 (at any time) with proof of age/identity or student card. A $60 adult event day registration is also available. The route takes cyclists along the Grand River from Fergus to Elora and from there through the rolling hills of Mennonite farm country to the West Montrose covered bridge. At this point, the 45km route returns to Fergus, while 70km cyclists make their way back to the high school via Maryhill, Marden and Guelph Eramosa. Cyclists who want a shorter route can turn and retrace their way back to Fergus at any time. At the finish, CWDHS Chef Chris Jess and his students will serve a lunch prepared in the school kitchen to all participants and volunteers. The winning ticket for Hometown Sears fill a fridge contest will be drawn at this time. For more information on the Food Cycle Ride visit www.foodcycleride.ca, or call 226-820-4475.
