Last one folks ... Let's make it unreal! This Sunday we are off to Ganaraska Forest ... a bit of a 'roadie' course so it's quick and fitness oriented. Same as always. We will be meeting at the Tim Hortons on Stone Road at 7 am SHARP on Sunday
so we can get there in time to register, pre ride etc. Please make sure you are there on time as this is a 2 plus hour drive! all the deets are at mtnbike.sa.utoronto.ca/oumrc/oumrc_race4.htmand here is a driving map mapq.st/o6gu5KI hope to see tons of riders (including some alums!) out .. and if anyone wants to come to watch/hang out that's cool too! Just post up that you will be sans bike. Since this is the final race there is often some post race celebrations at the site, but please remember that this is a public venue ... please treat it with respect, bring cans if you are going to partake in a beverage and if you are driving make arrangements or start your party later (lets get everyone home safe and sound)! Keep in mind everyone you should be altering your training to be well rested for this race.
So it should be somewhat along the lines of Chris` training template but wednesday should be your last day of intensity and if you`re feeling tired the few days leading up to the race THEN DONT PUSH IT....and remember to leave it all on the course and give er tits!
On a lighter note, the celly that will result from the race carrys on into the night so seriously clear your schedule for that night and for the next 48 hours after that as you will be debilitated from the calvalcade of epicness that your body will endure!(anyone who was at Macphails on thursday can attest to that)
Please check the forum regularly for deets on events after the race!

Alright. Less than one week left and that's your last U-cup race of the year. There's only 1 week left to worry about training, resting, and racing. One week is not enough to boost up your overal performance to some altogether new level; it takes weeks to do that.
But one week is enough to boost your race to the next level. This week is enough to sharpen our edges, and get ready for a real mountain bike race. That means that you want to be ready to pounce, ready to give your bike that extra little bit of energy when you come out of a turn, or those extra few watts when you go up a steep hill. You want to be able to throw ungodly efforts down for short periods of time, and be able to catch your breath for the next one.
We can all do this, and the best thing is that it doesn't take much training. This week you need to practice your all out max output, and do this by incorporating 15 second all out sprints into your rides. Any ride that you're doing - even if it's just the commute to school, race the cars at every stoplight, or pound onto your pedals when you hit the double track. Destroy your legs up those hills, and then give yourself about a minute's rest and do it again. Teach your heart to beat at inhuman rates for a small period of time, and then to come back down to your normal race effort after that.
In mountain bike racing it is important to have your long base training and high power output, but what really will make the edge between some evenly matched riders is the recovery from a quick, hard effort. You need to be able to propel yourself up a hill, or out of a corner. You need to be able to JUMP when the double track hits, so that the first thing that the person behind you sees is that you're so far ahead, it's the demoralizer people, and it works. When you can, be smooth in the singletrack, have faith in your tires and your ability - and just don't get over excited. Stay calm, stay focused, and you will be more efficient in the singletrack, and save your energy for the hills and long stretches of doubletrack.
That's my "pro advice", it's how I race, and I know that my limiter is my top end too. I will be riding and doing hard workouts until Thursday, then taking it pretty easy until the race. We have only 5 possible days of riding before the race. That's 5 rides, you can work hard, and you can build that top end to make the difference. These don't even have to be long rides, just practice your all out max effort, and you will see a difference. You've got the whole winter to sleep and be lazy, finish your season the best you can, make it something you're happy with, and finish with integrity. Every single rider on this team has shown some serious dedication, so don't give it up now, let's do this.

Correction: I won't need a ride there on Sunday. If we're low on space coming back to Guelph I can also get my own ride home.

Hey Drivers! time to pipe up!
In the last 4 years, we've never had to leave anyone behind due to space, only 3 days to get this sorted out.
