Join Steam Whistle and the Wooly for the “Easy Rider Parade”
A bike ride & BBQ celebrating the new
Steam Whistle Public Bike Maintenance Station
Sunday June 1st, Steam Whistle Brewing and Bob Desautels, owner of local landmark destination pub The Woolwich Arrow and restaurant Borealis Grille & Bar, are inviting people to take part in the “Easy Rider Parade”; a 6km bike ride and BBQ for all ages to celebrate the installation of downtown Guelph’s first Public Bike Maintenance Station, donated by the independent craft brewer.
The “Easy Rider Parade” described as “Easy like a Sunday morning” will begin at the Borealis Grille & Bar and finish at the Woolwich Arrow where participants can enjoy a B.B.Q. and ribbon cutting to formally open up the Steam Whistle Bike Maintenance Station for use. Sourced from Urban Racks, the bright green bike repair station includes a bike mount with ten tools on cable for easy repairs and a tire pump. The Bike Repair Station is installed in the Woolwich Arms front garden at the corner of Woolwich & Yarmouth and the cycling community is invited to use it any time.
“Steam Whistle has always been a huge supporter of the cycling community and our Good Beer Folks are excited to spend a Sunday morning with the people of Guelph,” beams Harry Fallon, Guelph resident & area rep for Steam Whistle Brewing. “The Wooly’s commitment to community and the importance of locally crafted beverages matches our own philosophy around our all-natural crafted beer, and made it the perfect location for the repair station.”
In 2013, Steam Whistle Brewing installed a bike repair station outside of the brewery’s front doors. The positive response from the city’s cycling community inspired the brewery to reach out to other communities in Ontario and beyond. This location represents the second installation, with the first being at Evergreen Brick Works, a community environmental center in Toronto, Ontario. A total of fourteen repair stations will be installed this year.
