Here's v.2.0 of the Ride Route thread. I misplaced the last one when doing forum renovations. These are just a few of the many routes in around Guelph. Last year we discovered these were easy to integrate into your busy school day, and are excellent for group rides. If you have another route, please post it. Also, if you know a variation of a route posted here, no need to post it. Just state the variation when leading the ride. EDEN MILLS ROUTE (45km, some rollers, a few steep ups)[/size] SLIM NED ROUTE (42km, a few rollers)ELORA FERGUS ROUTE ( 60km, Mostly flat route with a few gradual hills)CHRIS Z'S ROUTE (58km, flat route, lots of townlines)

So I'm thinking about doing some road riding... whats an estimate on how long these rides take?
|
|
|
Post by Dana on Sept 25, 2008 0:11:58 GMT -5
These routes can all be done in 1.5-3 hours, depending on how fast you can go. On an easy ride the average speed will probably be in the mid 20's, so that's a little under 2 hours for the 40km rides.

Here's the a nice route that Holly, Josh and I did last week. There's some new smooth road out toward rockwood once you get through Edin Mills. ~45km maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=50+Stone+Road+East,+Guelph,+ON+N1G+2W1+(University+of+Guelph)&daddr=43.562481,-80.1717+to:Wellington+27+Rd+to:Wellington+Rd+29+to:17th+Twp+Rd+to:Woolwich+St+to:Gordon+St&hl=en&geocode=FZwmmAIdldk3-yHVTUThM1L9_w%3B%3BFUC5mQIdWuE4-w%3BFZv8mQId4183-w%3BFc9gmQIdQUg3-w%3BFa67mAIdihY3-w%3BFQQqmAIdJt43-w&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=12&via=1,2,3,4,5&sll=43.589841,-80.194359&sspn=0.129058,0.275002&ie=UTF8&z=12

Ok, I fixed mine. You need to put around the crazier links so proboards can recognize them.

Here's a shorter one that's good for before/after school rides. <1hr ~30km including some decent rollers to climb. maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=123+Rodgers+Rd,+Guelph,+ON&daddr=Wellington+Rd+29+to:43.56671,-80.169983+to:Watson+Pkwy+S+to:127+Rodgers+guelph&hl=en&geocode=%3BFeLkmAIdYew4-w%3B%3BFZRTmAIdarw4-w%3B&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=2&sz=12&via=1,2,3&sll=43.565964,-80.189552&sspn=0.168414,0.256462&ie=UTF8&z=12

To whom it may concern (admin's)...the route that is posted for twin ponds seem to use the busiest, most dangerous roads aside from the 401 in the area. Townline road....honestly. I could get lost and make a better route.
If i had been a first time road-rider, it would have put me right off road riding.
terrible route.

yeah you're right, I never noticed that. Townline isn't soooo bad, I've ridden it lots but wellington 32 is not a road to be biking on for sure. I'll take that down.

Watson Parkway is closed for bridge repair, so plan a detour around Watson until sometime in June; I think that is when it says it will be done.

Some updates:
Construction on Watson Parkway is finished, so you can ride there from Stone
They have repaved sections of 2nd Line on the Edin Mills route and the pavement is terrible. It breaks apart under your tires and makes you flat quite often.
On first line near Cambelville they have put in a speed bump but haven't gotten around to marking it yet and its somewhat difficult to see.

tremblacIf you head South on Downey out of town, there are a bunch of nice roads between Wellington 32, Hwy 401 and Hwy 6N.
