I hate to be the bearer of bad news, .. While waiting for a cab lastnight Fruitboy was pushed from a bridge(or curb or something) and fractured his skull in a couple of places. He was taken to hospital then transferred to Hamilton. The last I heard was that he cannot speak properly but I don't really know any other details. All we can do is pray that he'll be alright.. I'll post if I hear more..

I will be going down to Hamilton later this evening and taking all of our collective love and thoughts with me.

He is currently not in stable condition in Emerg. at Hamilton General.
I just got off the phone with his mom and she's the only one allowed to see him at this time.

The story, as far as I can gather, was that he and his friend Trent were downtown and attacked by 4 guys and Chris was somehow pushed off of a bridge resulting in 2 fractures of his skull, multiple contusions and a major concussion. He cannot speak properly and is incoherent when he tries to talk.

I had planned on riding the Hydrocut this afternoon and had decided to cancel those plans to go and see him.

After speaking with Gale, his mom, and realizing that no one can see him yet, Gale has told me to do my ride anyway... because Chris would want me to. She said Chris would want me to ride twice as hard and twice as far for HIM.

This is my plan: I'm going to pick up my things from Waterloo and then head to the Hydrocut for a fast and hard double loop of the trail system for Chris. Then I'll be contacting Gale again for an update on the situation. Regardless of Chris' condition I'll be heading down there if only to be there to support Gale. I will most likely be coming back to Guelph for a quick shower before I go to Hamilton. I'll check in here to see if anyone wants to come along.

Local News for Tuesday September 8, 2009
A 19-year-old Guelph man is being treated in Hamitlon Hospital for a serious head injury. Police say the man was involved in an altercation with two other males on the pedestrian underpass that runs under the train tracks on Lower Wyndham Street around 2:40 Tuesday morning. An investigation has determined the victim fell over the railing along the walkway and sustained the injury when he fell onto the street below. Police are looking for two caucasian suspects. The first one is decribed as standing 5'10, has short hair, and was wearing jeans and a grey t-shirt. The other suspect is described having a muscular build, short hair, and was wearing a white t-shirt.

Between this and what happened to me a few weeks ago, I have to say that it isn't safe anymore to be around late anymore. There are too many people out looking for a fight who don't care what happens to you.

Ill be back in guelph tomorrow, and I'm going to try to go down to see him if I can. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome.

Maybe we could take up a collection for trainer for the guy? If we explain the situation to a LBS I'm sure they'd be willing to sell it at a discounted price.

When he gets out of the hospital he won't be allowed to put him self at risk of falling for a long time. Seeing how he doesn't own one it will give him an opportunity to ride a bike safely seems like a good idea to me.

I don't know Chris personally, but I've always cheered for him at the races and know he's a great friend of all of you. All the best for his recovery - I'll be checking back here to see how he's doing for sure.

Update on Chris: I was visiting tonight and a bunch of us were able to make it down. The response was fantasitc and a bit overwhelming for one night . Tonight Chris is able to recognise his mom, those who made it down, respond with short answers and typical 'Chris like jestures but is still fuzzy remembering short term things. He is in a lot more stable condition and enjoying gravol!

I am so so sorry i cannot make it to visit you. I would go tonight, but unfortunately I have people arriving at my house any minute. You will be in my thoughts, and if I prayed, I would pray for you. I'm sure I'm speaking for everyone when I say that if I encountered the people that did this to you I would run them over with a truck. If I didn't have a truck, I would go out and buy one just so I could run them over with it. I hope that you go through a quick recovery, it seems like you're already on your way there, which we are all grateful for. We all know you're very strong, we've seen you in action, I'm sure you will come back to us soon to grace us with more of that wonderful personality you have always charmed us with.

Those of us who can't be with you are certainly with you in spirit.

UPDATE:

Chris was up and walking around today! Not for long and not very far, but up, mobile and coherent.

He had a tough day that was filled with various tests and has since slipped back into his confused sleepy state.

It was a positive day. Keep sending your best thoughts out to Chris and his family!
