It's a good cause to support, however Kony moved out of Uaganda in 2006 and there are other charities which spend their donations far more appropriately. Read up on Invisible Children and decide if their methods are the ones to support, or perhaps choose another group. I have shared the video on facebook as have many people, but also included the following link for another perspective on this organisation, purple-bones.tumblr.com/post/18895660571/kony-2012

Thanks for that Matt; this is a very complex issue that should be taken with a grain of salt.

your right Alex .. this is an EXTREMELY complex issue that needs A LOT of thought ... yes the cause is real and Kony is a very bad man .. BUT will taking him out really solve the problem? what about the new conflict that may arise because of the struggle over the resources in the region? is increased military intervention the answer (as the video is suggesting - 'by any means necessary') .. this hasn't really worked in the past with either the US or the Canadian/Nato armies (Afghanistan, Iraq) what about the child soldiers that will be killed with an increase in armed conflicts during 'the hunt'? what about the 'good guy army' the UPDF (Ugandan state military) using systematic rape and looting as a tactic in the war? Matt alluded to it but is Invisible Children really the cause to be supporting? one source quotes that only 30 percent of donation money makes it to projects on the ground ... almost 70% is spent on marketing/advertising/staff/promotion (really high for this type of organization) This whole situation really brings up the issue of the white man being the hero and solving all the 'poor Africans' problems' when there are many local leaders and initiatives working to solve this conflict in the best way for Uganda ... just a few questions to consider here are some other sources taking a critical look at the campaign. I'm not saying that the video or the organization is all bad, or that increased awareness is bad ... just please make sure you are as educated as you can be when it comes to issues such as this one, because they are always way more complex than a 20 minute video and require careful thought before action www.observer.ug/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=17456%3Aupdf-in-kony-hunt-accused-of-rape-looting&catid=78%3Atopstories&Itemid=116jezebel.com/5891269/think-twice-before-donating-to-kony-2012-the-meme-du-jour
