Oh Hey There UGC!
It’s been a while since the Exec has had an update but trust me; we have been planning big things for the 2013/2014 year! This usually happens during top secret meetings which occur on the full moon of every month in a top secret location in the Swiss Alps…Ok so last time we met was in my parent’s basement….
I hope the summer has been super rad for everybody and you’ve all been able to get out on the bike. Its already August so get riding if you haven’t yet!
Its hard to imagine everyone will be back in about a month but I’ll be the first one to say I am STOKED for September.
The first month of school is probably our most active month between fresh new faces, tons of rides happening, lots of racing and of course, celebratory gatherings that always result in crazy times! So don’t miss out and read the next section for whats gunna be happenin.
Here are a few things to look forward to when you come back in September:
-Frosh week will include a ride happening every day. Some will be road and some will be on trail. We will post the ride 2 days before every ride on the forum and have a link on FB to the ride on the Forum. Distance, time to meet and speed of the ride will be indicated. We will ALWAYS be meeting at the Cannon.
-As per usual UGC tradition, there will be a Meet and Greet BBQ within the first couple weeks of school. If you have never taken part in this event, ask some current members about it. Not an event to be missed! More details will come.
-We participate as a team in the University Cup race series. Click this link to get more info… This race series is a mountain bike races series but we encourage everyone to come and give at least one of these races a try. There is a B category for beginners and an expert category for more experienced racers who want a challenge against some top level riders. There are 4 races over 4 weekends in September.
For anyone who has raced and is looking forward to this year, UGC is going to give Queens and UofT a run for their money. We got some solid riders lined up and team spirit is stronger than ever. We have a few more resources than last year also, more details to come but it involves food!
-We will do some sort of T-Shirt and a jersey rrder in the Fall(we have a little bit of overstock from last year also!).
UGC is not just a club to ride with other cyclists. We are a cohesive team that has a strong sense of camaraderie; some members have met some of their best friends and had the best memories of their undergrad with us.
If you’ve made it a goal this year to get more involved and want to with a crazy fun team and make some great friends along the way while getting to ride your bike, this is the way to do it!
We`ll let that sink in for now.
One more housekeeping note. Your Exec for the upcoming will not change much. Me(Alex L), Matt T and Rookie Dan will still be leading the charge with the big man himself Alex Schmidt(Schmidty) jumping on board to learn the ropes this year and help out with leading rides and organizing logistics for races.
If you have any questions, post up on here, post on the Facebook page here or email us at uogcycling@gmail.com
