I ate a donut today, the mental anguish and realization that i have no self control when it comes to donuts has incurred far more injury than anything possibly could.

I went backwards, landed on my lower spine, and since then, i have had a numb patch just to the left of the base of my spine. Some sort of permanent nerve damage was incurred.

I got out on my felt this afternoon and ate it pretty badly. I hooked my bars on a tree (I was late into a turn), went over the fork and hit my thigh against another tree. My thigh is very blue and swollen right now.

I was dialing in my new racing ralphs... as a side note: I fucking love them... single track rides like asphalt, hook up in the corners is SWEET I now have tires I can actually trust. Haven't ridden Guelph Lake that fast on my own...ever. I tried not braking...railing the corners and what not...but it was through an unfamiliar section and i zigged when I should have zagged...right in to a sapling that raped my neck... my brake lever also raped my bikes paint

I raced the OBC Grand Prix (hardest road race sanctioned by the OCA) this morning. I came 32 out of 68 and my legs are incredibly sore, they hurt walking down the stairs.

did you race with juniors at the same time?

Post by Z on Jul 12, 2008 18:43:46 GMT -5
Yeah, they started us with the juniors. They only had 2 laps to do and we had 4 so off the start the juniors hammered and they sucked a lot of the field with them up the first hill. The first hill was also the largest so lots of people blew them selves up.

Raking: {ray-king} a) An action commonly preformed *and really useful* in sports such as rugby, soccer, etc. When a key player -scrumhalf, keeper, or really anyone in the same vacinity as the ball- is on the ground one would hypothetically apply their spikes to any visible body part, push down, then pull the foot back or 'rake' the flesh of the opponent. Not very legal but a pretty good way of telling someone who continually plays the ball on the ground to f*cking stop doin it. The end.

Sore knees, front area, patellar (?)
Rode the 24 hours of Adrenalin in Canmore.....team made me do the first lap, 800 m dash to the bikes, then an extra 7 km detour through the town for the 1st lap only and then the 16 km normal course.
I crashed halfway through the 16km part and broke my front shifter and got stuck in the middle ring, so climbing was not fun.
Did another lap in the rain, muddy as hell and sliding all over rooty sections.....fun
3rd lap, 8th km, knees said no more. Couldn't walk well for 2 days, and they are still a bit sore when I ride.
Pushed too hard or something else?
I'm pretty sure I've got everything dialed in alright, seats a good height, cleats float alright.

I'm pretty sure I've got everything dialed in alright, seats a good height, cleats float alright. It took me a few years and talking to a lot of knowledgeable people to discover I did not have enough arch support in my cycling shoes. The top of my knee (right where the muscle meets the bone on the front) would get extremely sore after about 45minuets to 1 hour of riding. If I pushed through it too much for too long the next day or two i could walk but sitting down into a chair or bending down was a bit challenging and painful. You knees could just be suffering from the crash and lots of riding or I`d check the arch support in your shoes, a lot of cycling shoe brands have no arch support!

Here's the photo's for anyone that is curious, no FB account needed. great analogy Aaron www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2232562&l=2c876&id=120806128As for the shoes, I am starting to lean towards that, especially after you said that, thanks MichelleL! I'll be looking into that soon, because the ones I have certainly don't have arch support and my feet move around in them a little bit even when they are as tight as possible.

Michelle, where do you get checked out for that? I get pretty bad soreness in the back of my knee sometimes, I wonder if that is something similar.

On campus there are two ways: the health and performance center in the Powel Building beside the AC, or the chiropractic center in the UC. I saw Bryan Billings through the H&P center. He's done orthotics and custom footware for many athletes including olympic athletes in Athens. Orthotics are downright expensive but the school plan will cover 75% of the costs. At his practice in Guelph they can do a custom sport orthothic for less than $50 that is an 80-90% correction. There is no computerized gate analysis necessary. They will measure your arch length and body weight, you just leave your shoe overnight so they can make the orthotic so it fits into your shoe. The other day I was in a bikeshop in st.catharines and they invested some cash into this heat mouldable sport orthotic system - it would cost you 130$ for the heat moulded one or 80$ for a "cycling orthotic" that was not custom. www.yellowpages.ca/bus/Ontario/Guelph/Billings-Orthotics-Footwear/2965594.html?adid=&tabSelect=Long story short, i sprained my ankle randomly this winter and in the healing process I found out that I was a good candidate for orthotics. Bryan did the full out plaster mold orthotics for me but when i asked how much to do a pair for my cycling shoes (because the street shoe ones didn't fit the narrower shoe) he suggested the sport custom one was just as good and a lot cheaper - the only real difference was that my plaster orthotic would last about 4 years of everyday use compared to about 1 year every day for the cheaper one. However, i`m not going to be bearing full body weight on those everyday so they will last a lot longer than one year! I would suggest popping into Bryan's practice and talking to them. Its not too far from the University. He does make appointments on campus through the health and performance center to accommodate students but his shop where everything is just down the road from the University.

Sounds like that's worth looking into. I've got ankle problems of my own and I've never had a full exam done on them by a specialist. Better late than never I guess.

Went riding today with two guys way beyond my league of riding, humility ensued, and a newfound sense of utter modesty prevailed.
Thinking about giving up on cycling and becoming a professional DJ.
