I'm Ryan Stackhouse I hail from Truro, NS and have been into bicycles casually for the past three years. I got my first serious bicycle this summer, a Specialized Allez which has taken up way too much of my time lately, or conversely, not enough. I like to get out regularly on my skinny tyres, and am hoping to get in better shape over the winter to try out racing next season. Still being a complete amateur, any advice anybody can offer me about off season training to stay in/get into better shape, or how to get into the racing scene would be appreciated! I intend to be out on the road rides and hammerfests (if I can cut it). Academically, I'm an incoming grad student with the Tri-U program, so I'll be here fore the next two years, at least, working on a thesis about Nazis. Anything you wanna know about Nazis, I'm your man. Just what your club always needed, I'm sure. I'm looking forward to meeting you out on the road!

Hey. I'm Alyce. I've been competing triathlons for 5 years now. Mostly sprint distances. I love to bike (road), but it's even better right after you've swam all out or run!! I'm actually a swimmer at heart... then biking... then running. I ride a Bianchi, and it's my baby. Currently inhabiting my bedroom. Can't wait to get out for some good rides...!

I'm from victoria, bc and have been in guelph for three years now. Looking forward to some good rides and hopefully learning a bunch too.

Hello, I'm Liana--from Owen Sound. I started Mountain Biking a couple years ago, then took it up again last year. I was on the mountain bike team at my school, so I've done a few races and such. Usually I'd bike the escarpment back home--we didn't suffer for trails there My bike FINALLY arrived here yesterday so I'm pumped to get some MTBing in here!!

Hi everyone!
I realize I'm a bit late, but I thought I'd join up anyways! I'm Elizabeth, I'm in Guelph in fourth year right now. I just started doing triathlons this summer, and I love it!! I'm definitely planning on keeping them up next year, and I'd love to get more into the biking part too. I just have a basic mountain bike now, but I'm looking into investing in a hybrid or road bike for next year (if anyone knows where I could look for good deals, any help would be appreciated!) I have no racing experience at all outside of a couple of tris, and just biking trails for fun occasionally. I look forward to learning a LOT!

I figure i'd finally introduce myself. Well i'm Phillip and as you can see, i like to procrastinate. I started moutain biking about four years ago, not racing though, mostly trials/street. But i wouldn't mind trying out some races. I love every aspect of biking and if you ever want to ride, give me a shout and i'll most likely come. ps. i like candle light dinners

Hey gang,
I'm Brian, 3rd year biology student. I hail from rural Oxford County, but I've been in guelph for 2 years now.
I started riding road last year, but didn't do it much because of rugby commitments. This summer I traded cleats for other cleats, and I cycle much more regularly.
Look forward to meeting new riding mates and having some fun times.

Heya all, apparently I missed the moutain biking season, which is a shame... but I heard from a friend at Queen's (yes, them) that the road bike season starts in spring.
I've been biking for much of my life, but I would love to add some sort of "competitive edge".
I don't know how the tryouts work, if they exist at all, but I would love to help out Guelph's team. Since I'm dreadful at navigating forums, if anybody would be able to provide some sort of link to the spring season information, that would be awesome.
Thanks (and also hello),
Kevin

Hi Kevin. You just pass your try out by posting (there is no try out). Our road rides will be going strong for as long as the weather holds out so there's still plenty of time to participate. As far as spring racing, I believe there's one US race we may compete in, but that's the extent of our plans so far. If you can find more info on the spring circuit from your friend, let us know and we'll see if we can get involved.

For the road season there's a few Ontario cup races that are going on before the end of the semester, but as far as university road races go that's only in the US. We were within inches of attending one NCAA road race last spring, and we'll be going for it again this spring too. There is also a local mtb time trial that a few of us usually attend in the spring. We should also be doing another club TT on the road come spring when it warms up enough.
Are you into mtb-ing also?

For sure to MTB. I talked to my friend, and he said that Queen's was at least playing with the idea of an American race (maybe the NCAA one you mentioned).
Anyhow, how do I start to meet people and get into the aforementioned road rides?

That part's easy! come out to the friday 'social' road ride at least. You can find the other weekly rides in the road/mtb sections of this forum, near the top, can't miss 'em. All you have to do is show up prepared for whatever type of ride its going to be, long, short, fast easy, road/mtb... that kind of thing.

Hi,
Erica just told me about this club. I'm in my final semester in environmental science, and am doing a cross country tour (Vancouver BC to St. John's NFLD) this May! Looking to get on some of the road bike rides to train for it.

Hey Dylan that's a pretty good way to kick off being free from school after this many years!
If the weather keeps up like this you should have your pick of road rides to choose from.
Do you have an indoor trainer for you bike? If so keep your eyes out for trainer parties that will happen until the weather gets better.

Hi all - I'm new to Guelph. I've got a Surly Long Haul Trucker and ready for some touring in and around the City. I like tours between 30 - 60k a day. Any suggestions for this area? Cheers, Bryan

Hi Everyone,
My name is Jess, I just finished my undergrad at UofG. I actually wasn't part of the club during school, but I took up mountain biking last summer and had an awesome time.
I'm going to be in Guelph again this summer, and looking for people to ride with. I'm pretty novice, but I'm having a ton of fun with it and would love to learn more from any of you more seasoned riders.
Thanks and hope to see you on the trails!
- Jess

Hey Jess,
Good choice in getting into biking! There's lots of riding going on this summer, so keep your eyes out for any rides/happenings on the forum that may appeal to you.
If you're interested in trying any mountain bike races they have beginner categories for first timers, lots of fun. A lot of us attend the races already so we could easily get you acquainted with the deal.
See you around, Bayden

Thats a wicked amount of experience you guys are bringing to the club!

Hello Im Andrew. I've been road biking for about 5 years but missed out on the last 2 seasons due to my bike being 'giving away'. I bought an entry level Cannondale at the beginning of the summer and have been working on slowly upgrading the parts while I work up my cardio to go along with it.
I hope to do some riding with everyone shortly.

Hi my name is Mike,
Started of riding MTB then switched to road 3-4 years ago. Currently in bad shape as I have not rode for about 4-5 months.
Some *career* highlights include riding the dolomites in Italy, Mt. Lemmon, and I was with the ontario Jr. in South Carolina for a couple weeks. Usually have never done that well racing other than in club races.
Hopefully I will be getting my bike next week so I can participat in some rides - probably both MTB and Road. Originally from windsor moved to Barrie 9 years ago, currently majoring in Econ.
